After the great success from the first game jam we had done (Candy Jam 2014), we were aching for some more challenges. Cue in the Games Plus Plus Game Jam. We were totally on board with this, and signed up immediately.
Games Plus Plus took place at Bellevue University in Omaha, Nebraska, and…
I like Twitter for jokes and breaking news, Google Plus for really interesting and insightful information on some specific things I like, and Tumblr for being angrily lectured by twentysomethings with no life experience.
Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio (Ghosts of the Great Highway, 2003)
I’ve been on a bit of a Sun Kil Moon binge lately, since their new album Benji officially came out today. Trust the hype behind this one - it’s a fucking A+ album. I listened to it for the first time when I was at work, and I was trying really fuckin’ hard not to cry by the second track, so if you measure your sad indie folk rock by that metric it’s absolutely gold.
[RHO] Industries just finished up its Candy Jam Game Jam! Our task is to create a simple pong game in a weekend with our freshly developed [RHO]gine game engine. The theme? Candy! Let’s take a look at the process.
First things first. We prep ourselves with themed snacks. Candy is easy….
Slam, bam, thank you ma’am, get on the floor and jam!
A recent article circulating online is about King.com and it’s recent filing to register the word ‘candy’ as a trademark. King.com is the creator of the addictive social network game ‘Candy Crush Saga,’ and its recent move for trademarking…
I’m pretty excited to be a part of this! It was nice that it came along, since we were going to have a game jam over Groundhog Day anyway to test our new engine (lovingly dubbed the ‘[RHO]gine’), but now we have a cause behind it!
I do love me some dronegaze. Nice thinking music. And an apropos title for considering the past year.
Only about 22 hours left in 2013. It’s certainly been a year. Not a particularly good or bad one. I had fun times, and shitty times. Still no real development on the career front, so I’m stuck floundering around student loans. Development for [RHO] has been going well, the group is blessed with very talented guys who actually have the drive to get it done and I am really excited for that particular future. My success with gardening has convinced me that 2014 is the year that my hot peppers are going to make it to the Omaha Farmer’s Market. Didn’t go to nearly enough shows, but Neutral Milk Hotel is playing in February so that makes up for it a bit. Didn’t listen to a lot of new music this year. I’m falling into a rut of what I listen to, and my new music time at work has turned into new podcast time…considering I’m juggling the new episodes of every show on the Laser Time network, The Last Podcast on the Left, and still catching up with old episodes of the Steve Austin Show and VGMPire that I haven’t heard, and I still need to start listening to Hardcore History. God help me if Mike and Tom Eat Snacks starts putting out episodes regularly again. Started a new D&D campaign about a month and a half ago, gonna do the fabled “start at level 1 and finish at 20” campaign with three folks that are part of my usual tabletop group and two D&D beginners. Everyone’s been having fun and I’m really excited since this is the first world I ever designed and I’ve been improving on it since I started DMing so many years ago and I think it’s gonna be a kickass story for the players and I to experience and figure out together.
I guess that’s enough stream of though retrospect for now. See you guys in 2014.
